A 1978 graduate of Bolivar High School, Richard graduated from Union University in 1982 with a degree in Religion. He became our pastor in 1997 and is now the longest tenured pastor in the history of our church. He will tell you that his wife Denise is by his side and fully supports his ministry. Our church was his first full-time pastorate.
Richard’s first church as a pastor was Clover Creek Baptist in Medon, Tenn. and he then moved to First Baptist-Pocahontas before answering God’s call to move to Chewalla. He was ordained to preach in 1981.
His focus as a pastor is to make disciples and help others follow Jesus. He is proud to have led two major building programs during his time at Chewalla. His prayers are that our church will continue to grow and be a spiritual light to our community.

He is married to the former Denise Garrett. They have two sons, Matt (Rebecca) and Logan (Sara) and two daughters, Holly and Mary Kate.

Will Shelton, youth director

A fourth-generation member of our church, Will graduated from the University of Tennessee’s Health Science Center in 2008. He became our youth director in 2009. He now works as an Occupational Therapist at McNairy County Healthcare Center in Selmer. He and his wife Megan are excellent leaders for our youth. He tries to instill in the youth the importance of spiritual growth as a Christian and submission to the Holy Spirit is essential to growing and becoming the man or woman God has called them to be.

Will feels the six years of being a youth will affect their lives and many decisions they will make in the future. He believes the youth are a perfect age to start eating some meat to help their spiritual maturity.

Will is married to the former Megan King and they have two children, Kolby, Karsyn and Kate.

Sarah Beth Barnes Dotson, children's director

Sarah Beth Dotson has deep roots in Chewalla Baptist Church with four generations of her family having served at CBC. Sarah Beth graduated from Middle Tennessee State University. She became our children's director in 2012. She is a fifth grade teacher at Ramer School. Sarah Beth has been very active in our church's music ministry her entire life. She has been a part of our ladies ensemble, adult choir musicals, and directed children's musicals.

Her infectious personality is a positive in her service to the Lord. She wants to instill in the children how important it is to love God and serve His church with a joyful heart. Our church is fortunate to have her as our children's director.
